As if we weren’t having a great New Year already, our very own Kriston Sellier was recently featured in Cobb in Focus magazine! The article profiles successful businesses in the area and their keys to success. Here’s a quick snippet of Sellier Design’s feature:

Voted a Top 25 Best Small Company by Working Mother magazine and a 2009 winner of the Small Business Commerce Association’s Best of Business Award, Sellier Design has garnered numerous design Awards, including several American Corporate Identity Awards.

Although the economic downturn has made doing business in any field more difficult, Sellier says her company has weathered the recession thanks to discovering the value of networking. “We’re doing well, and I would attribute that to networking — getting new business clients through referrals and maintaining good relationships with the ones we already have,” she says. “I’d never really done networking before, but right before the recession we recruited 25 new clients through networking, which helped us tremendously. You can make so many great connections in the community, and it is a lot less of an investment than you might think.”

Sellier Design takes a holistic approach to brand management by offering clients website analysis and design, advertising resources, stationery and marketing collateral, corporate identity, logo design and search engine optimization.

Go Mobile – If you haven’t yet, consider coming up with a ‘mobile strategy’ for your company. 15% of all searches on Google are from a Mobile device and by 2015, Internet users will employ mobile devices  to access the web more than PCs. By ensuring your website, search marketing and email marketing are mobile friendly, you’ll be tapping into a broader market.
2. Brand Yourself – What better time to come up with an exciting campaign than when the year is brand new? Pun intended.
3. Network Online – 2012 is the year to dive in to social media. New to the arena? Start by investing 15 minutes a day. And to be clear – social media is used best when establishing customer relationships and quality customer service. Posting shameless self promotion on social networking sites will only earn your company a bad reputation.
4. Refresh Your Website – It may seem like just yesterday when you put together website content, but it’s most likely already time for a revamp! Search engines grade your website on the freshness of its content, therefore it’s smart to update regularly. Prospects are looking for a site that is easy to navigate, informative, relevant and easy on the eyes. Make sure your URL will have them hooked.
5. Let Your Personality Shine Through – It’s great to be professional, but not at the cost of your identity. Clients want to do business with people, not enterprises. When creating your website and social media sites, take a step back and ask yourself, “Who are we? What does this say about us? What impression is this content creating?” Loosen up a button or two, if necessary.

1. COLLABORATE ON A DOCUMENT Within a Group page, click on Docs at the top of the page and then the Create a Doc button on the right-hand side to create a text-only document that everyone in the group can edit. When you save the document, it will be posted to the group’s feed, just like a status update, with an Edit button in the upper-right corner. To see previous revisions, click Recent Changes.
2. ADD A CALENDAR TO YOUR PAGE If you’re a business owner, a team coach or a performer who wants to keep everyone on Facebook apprised of your coming events, simply creating separate Facebook events for each one can be ineffective. These can get lost in the stream of events, making it hard for people to check for, say, your next game. As an alternative, use the Social Calendar app, which was not developed by Facebook. Go to facebook.com/SocialCalendar and click the Add to My Page link in the lower left corner. That will pop up a menu of pages you manage. Click Add to Page next to one or more pages, then click Close. Those pages will now include a Calendar link in their upper left corner, just below Wall, Info and Photos. Social Calendar is pretty smart — it will autocomplete the names of events you’ve already created, and if you type in an Address field, it will add a map link to the location on the calendar. But for maximum attendance, you should still post status updates announcing an event.
3. TRACK YOUR PAGE’S SUCCESS On any page you own, whether it is for your business or your clog-dancing club, click View Insights in the upper right corner. Facebook will display charts of user information and page interactions. Beyond the number of Likes and comments, it will plot a graph of page views and user feedback, plus a breakdown of which Web domains are sending traffic to your page, and the demographics of your visitors. If you want to do your own number-crunching, you can export the data into an Excel-compatible file.
4. CREATE A POLL Hiding in plain sight above the box to enter status updates is a Question button. Posting a question looks just like posting an update, except that it takes the first three answers from your friends and turns them into a poll to keep the discussion focused. You can also set up the poll with your own answers, or add more to those Facebook creates.
5. EDIT LINK NAMES AND DESCRIPTIONS If you want to post a link to your Facebook page but don’t like the title or description that Facebook automatically pulls from the linked page, you can change it. Before you click the Share button, click on the title or description in your pending post. They will change into editing boxes, like those to rename a file on your computer desktop. When you’re done editing, press Enter to save your changes.
